Consumable Supply and Customs Velocity

Interventional radiology depends on single-use catheters, wires, sheaths and embolic agents. These are largely imported, priced in foreign currency, and can be held at clearance for weeks, which makes a list scheduled today unreliable next month.

A predictable consumable pipeline held at department level rather than assembled case by case.

We intend to consolidate demand across partner departments so orders are placed as one regional volume rather than separately
We plan to work with licensed clearing partners and regulators to establish documented, repeatable clearance routes for medical consumables
We will standardise a small number of procedure trays so stock can be counted, forecast and reordered without guesswork
We aim to hold an agreed minimum buffer at each site before a service is declared active

Power Stability for Imaging Suites

Angiography and fluoroscopy equipment is sensitive to interruption and to voltage irregularity. A grid outage mid-procedure is a clinical safety issue, and repeated surges shorten the working life of equipment that is difficult to replace.

Imaging suites that can complete a scheduled list without depending on grid continuity.

We intend to specify dedicated conditioned power and battery backup for the imaging suite as part of any site readiness assessment
We plan to treat power provision as a prerequisite of activation, not an improvement made later
We will document generator and inverter maintenance responsibilities with the host institution before a service starts
We aim to record every interruption so the cost of instability is visible rather than absorbed quietly

Radiation Protection and Facility Licensing

Image-guided work requires shielded rooms, dosimetry, protective equipment and regulatory approval. Requirements differ between states and institutions, and approval timelines rarely align with clinical urgency.

Sites that meet protection and licensing requirements before the first patient is scheduled.

We intend to prepare a standard shielding and dosimetry specification that host institutions can take directly to their regulator
We plan to engage the relevant national and state authorities early in each site conversation rather than at the end
We will support local physics and safety leads in compiling the evidence an audit asks for
We aim to publish nothing as an active site until protection and licensing conditions are met

Sub-Specialty Retention and Case Volume

Training a clinician is not the same as keeping a service. Without sufficient case volume, mentorship and a defined role on return, newly trained operators lose skill or leave for settings where they can practise.

Trained operators who remain in post with the volume and support needed to stay competent.

We intend to pair every training place with a named local post and supervisor before the placement begins
We plan to run paired rotations so trainees build volume alongside experienced operators rather than in isolation
We will schedule continuing remote case review after a placement ends, not only during it
We aim to agree referral pathways with local clinicians so the service receives the cases it was built for
